National External Diploma Program

The National External Diploma Program (NEDP) is a competency-based high school diploma program for individuals 18 years of age and over. The program is designed for adults who have acquired their academic skills through life and work experiences and can demonstrate what they have learned.

Students will meet with an Advisor one on one via Zoom to discuss all options. Computer Access/ WiFi is needed to complete this program.

Registration

Prospective students must take a qualification test prior to enrollment. Students need to register for one virtual Information Session which takes approximately one hour. Information Sessions will be held at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on the Mondays listed below. Students may sign up to receive the Zoom link by calling 703-791-7357 or sending an email to adulted@pwcs.edu.

Class Tuition

  • Cost for Prince William County residents is $800, payable by installments. Out of county resident fee is $1000.
  • Enrolled students pay $200 to start. Additional payments may be made in one $300 payment followed by three consecutive $100 payments.<
  • Payments may be made by credit /debit card (Visa or MasterCard), cashier's check, or money order. Tuition costs and fees are non-refundable.

Completion

Completion time varies with each individual, averaging from six months to a year. A flexible schedule is available and will be determined by you and your Advisor. The NEDP awards a standard high school diploma that is issued by the local school board through the Office of Adult Education. This diploma is accepted by colleges, but some colleges may require that adults meet other admissions standards.

GED® Preparation Classes

Where it is never too late to earn your high school credential!
Fall 2020 GED® Preparation Classes will be held online using a computer or device. A teacher will meet with students via Zoom or Canvas platforms for the classes listed below.

GED® Preparation Class Offerings & Tuition:

  • ABE/Pre-GED/GED® 4 subjects–60 hours of instruction.
    • Meets four days a week   Mon., Tue., Wed. & Thu. $100 plus book
  • ABE/Pre-GED/GED® 4 subjects–60 hours of instruction.
    • Meets three days a week, Tue., Wed. & Thu. $100 plus book
  •  GED® 2 subject–30 hours of instruction.
    • Math/Science meets Tue & Thu. $50 plus book
    • Social Studies/Language Arts meets Mon & Wed. $50 plus book

Students will choose from the following time slots.

  • 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Extra Interim Session:

November 23, 2020 to January 20, 2021–Mon, Tue, Wed & Thu; 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. GED® Multilevel 60 hours of instruction; $100 plus book

Students must register prior to attending class. Registration information will be announced before class begins. Textbooks cost approx. $25 each. Payments may be made by credit /debit card (Visa or MasterCard), cashier's check, or money order. Tuition costs and fees are non-refundable. All classes follow the PWCS Holiday Calendar. The following Fall 2020 Classes will be held online using a computer or device. A teacher will meet with students via the Zoom or Canvas platforms for the classes listed below:

  • Digital Literacy Classes: 60 hours of instruction
  • Community Engagement Classes: 50 hours of instruction
  • Bridging: 60 hours of instruction––These classes will on students' goals and will help students to understand their own career interests and skills needed to self-assess, plan, prepare, and enter a career that is personally and financially fulfilling. These classes will also prepare students for the GED® credential.
  • Microsoft Office Specialist, Outlook and Excel:  90 hours of instruction. This course prepares individuals to become certified with the necessary skills to pursue positions in the Microsoft Office Specialist career field. At the end of the course, individuals will take the MOS Outlook and Excel certification exams. Students must register before the class begins. Prince William County Schools Adult Education GED® Distance Education Program

Prepare for the GED test!

The GED® Distance Education program is for students who desire the convenience of studying from a computer with Internet access while an instructor provides individualized instruction. The flexibility of this program allows students to begin at any time, on their own time. Computer Access/ WiFi is needed to complete this program.

Registration

Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Interested students must take a placement test to ensure proper program entrance level. Students need to attend a Zoom Information Session during one of the following dates and times. This session will take approximately one hour.

  • Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 10 a.m.
  • Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 10 a.m.
  • Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 10 a.m.

Class Tuition

  • Individuals pay $30 for 30 days of unlimited access, 24 hours a day
  • Continuous Study at $30 for 30 days is available to enrolled students
  • Payments may be made by credit or debit card, (Visa or MasterCard), cashier's check, money order. Tuition costs and fees are non-refundable. Offerings are contingent on funding and sufficient enrollment.
