It goes beyond just teaching the words on the page for Bull Run Middle School Teacher, Robert Knight. He brings civics to life with his students, taking them to the Prince William General District Court to see trials in action and participate in mock trials with a local judge.
This hands-on learning is one of the reasons why Knight was awarded the Federal Bar Association Excellence in Civics Education Award for 2017. The Federal Bar Association has recently founded a Civics Initiative to encourage learning about the importance of civics as a critical component of the modern world. They are recognizing educators throughout the nation who contribute to the knowledge and understanding of civics in their school and the surrounding community.
