This Family Engagement Series is open to families of English Learners, Title I, and/or Special Education students.

Join us on January 12 for a Specialty Program Information Night to explore the variety of programs available to middle and high school students in PWCS. Families will learn about deadlines and program application process for Advanced Academics Specialty Programs, AASP and Career and Technical Education, CTE programs available in PWCS. The application deadline is fast approaching, come learn about these programs before the application process closes.

Middle School Programs:

International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, Mathematics and Science Program, Same Gender Program, Traditional Schools, and World Language Programs

High School Programs:

Advanced Academic Specialty Program opportunities include:

Advanced Placement Scholars(AP), Biotechnology, Cambridge Programme, Center for Applied Sciences, Interactive and Information Technology (CASIIT), Center for Environmental Sciences (CENS), Center for Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA), Center for International Studies and Language (CISL), International Baccalaureate (IB), Information Technology (IT), Fine and Performing Arts, Governor’s School at Innovation Park and Pre-Governor's School.

CTE Transfer opportunities include:

Agriculture, Automotive Technology, Aviation Maintenance, Biomedical Science, Building Trades, Cabinetmaking, Cybersecurity, Electricity, Medical Coding and Billing, Plumbing, Television Production, and Welding.

CTE Transport opportunities include:

Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Firefighting, and Practical Nursing. JROTC If your school does not offer JROTC, you may apply for a school-based transfer through the JROTC webpage.

 

Presenters for this session include:

Karima Wesselhoft, Supervisor of Advanced Academics and Specialty Programs, Office of Student Learning. She has over 17 years of experience working with advanced academics programs with students of all levels. More recently she spent the past 4 years as an Assistant Principal at Charles J. Colgan High School where she was responsible for the Advanced Placement Program, English Language Learners and Social Studies.

Doug Wright, Supervisor of Career and Technical Education, Office of Student Learning. Doug Wright has 33 years of experience in K-12 public education, focusing on Career and Technical Education (CTE). He is a northern Virginia native and attended college at George Mason University and Virginia Tech. Doug has taught Technology Education, served as an assistant principal, and an administrator for a CTE academy. Doug has been with Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) for the last eight years and is committed to expand and improve PWCS CTE programs so all students can find success and look ahead to a bright future.

2020-21 Parents as Educational Partners Sessions

Our Division  offers sessions to help families acclimate themselves with the US educational system. The Parents as Educational Partners  programs (PEP) are available at many schools and at our Global Welcome Centers in both Woodbridge and Manassas. 

The PEP program includes:

  • Orientation to PWCS
  • School Procedures Information
  • Initiatives to Promote Healthy Youth
  • Rosetta Stone Learning
  • And More!
